if you hold the metal your welding with your hand, would the current ground through you body potentially killing you? or am I just paranoid? (lets say I’m stupid and don’t use welding gloves)

Yep- this is helpful. I like the cheaper aspect. I like that I don’t need a separate tank of Argon in my garage. But if I need to fix a sheet metal problem on a tractor, I’m out of luck.

the 7014 rod is almost the easiest rod to use which is the samll rod he showed, i have never used the 1/4″ rod so i dont know how easy they are to start. also if ur first learning no need to try and zig zag, the easiest is to do a straight line pulling twards you

Good video.Other things to do are, have GOOD work boots on,wear a pair of safety glasses, have a good sharp (point)chipping hammer, drag the pointed end of the chipping hammer along each side of the weld to remove the slag

Hello airride187!! 1mm u cant weld with an arc welder and the only chance that you gonna weld it without burning trough is using 1.5 mm electrodes with very low amp!!! BUT its almost impossible!!! i would do it with mig or tig!

i agree, not boasting but i picked up welding like a pro with consistent beads and perfect penetration in like an hour! and to think this is a 2 or 3 year apprenticeship in the UK, no way thats overkill! 6 -8 months max for the complete novice. i prefer it actually to mig welding, mig has too many settings for my liking

you need to very lightly but quickly tap the metal with your rod, this is what always works for me and allows the arcing to start. it will always stick once or twice even for pro’s due to the concept of it, thats why it is nicknamed a stick welder, not because of the rods

I always have problems with striking for the first time, most of the times it just sticks inmediatly to the material i’m trieing to weld, switching from a cheap made in china (ferm) welding machine to a pro (smitweld) welding machine helped some but I still cant get it right every time
